2008 Luckovich

Luckovich did this cartoon back when Hank Paulson (Bush's Treasurey Secretary) was in charge of bailing out Wall Street..... many are unaware that, prior to becoming Treasury Sec'y, Paulson made millions at Goldman Sachs. Certainly nothing wrong with that, but it does make you wonder if Paulson had a "vested interest" in making sure his Wall Street friends were rescued first.... at tremendous taxpayer expense.
Clearly, that's what Luckovich is trying to convey in this cartoon....

Mike Luckovich, the AJC's political cartoonist, is absolutely BRILLIANT. No matter your political affiliation or opinions, you can certainly see the humor in this. :)

Why I'll Never Run for President

UPDATE: I'm sure this goes without saying, but in no way should the below post be construed as me making fun of (or condoning how our mainstream media makes fun of) John McCain. I think our current news system is anything BUT fair and balanced, and I also think they take glee in reporting on what garners RATINGS, instead of what is truly newsworthy.
I merely am making a point that I would not want to live in the fishbowl that presidential candidates have to live in... that's all....

Can you imagine having a photograph that is this unflattering yourself on the front page of a major European newspaper? (This was on the front page of The Irish Times on Thursday, October 16th.)

No thanks. I'll pass.

And there are about 476 other reasons why I would never consider running for President as well, but this Nosferatu-looking photo tops the list for today.

Definitely not a Boring "Old Guard" White Guy

I must say, I'm very pleased with McCain's pick for his VP.

I wouldn't have predicted it in a million years, and until yesterday I had no clue who this woman was.

But so far, I like what I'm learning about Sarah Palin.

She definitely appeals to this particular independent.

The race is getting interesting (finally!)

Donald Miller Interview - 8.25.08

I've been a Donald Miller fan for many years. Blue Like Jazz is one of my favorite books, and when he came to speak at my church a couple of years ago I just loved how funny, humble and REAL he was. He definitely explodes the sterotype of what a committed Christian "should be". And especially here in the South, where it's assumed if you're a committed Christian, well then surely you're a registered Republican.

(For the record, I'm a registered Democrat.... I registered "BLUE" way back in college... when I was still a starry-eyed idealist. These days, I'm an Independent, and I find myself increasingly wishing there was a VIABLE third party in this country. A party that had the good parts of the Republicans and the good parts of the Democrats, without all the JUNK that they both bring along with them.)

Regardless, the below interview is interesting. Don gave this shortly before the opening of the DNC convention kicked off on Monday. I found much of what he had to say very thought provoking. I certainly didn't agree with all of it, but I found it well thought-out, and not mean spirited. (Unfortunately there's far too much mean-spiritedness and finger-pointing in politics.... on both sides of the fence. )

It might be the wine.... But Here is my BIG IDEA

I am on my second glass of wine this evening (a really good red Argentinian wine, I might add)....

Anyway, I have a slight buzz going because I almost NEVER drink, BUT I have a brainstorm.

OK, here's what I'm thinking:
I'm thinking that Barack Obama (who I'm planning on voting for) ought to have this very tune played at his inauguration and he ought to hire Bill Clinton to be his DJ.

Wouldn't that be perfect???

That way the Clintons could once again be involved in the 2008 presidential "doings"..... Bill could spin some great tunes (and we ALL know that he would love to play some funky music.... white boy....)
