The Awakening

My church, 12Stone, actively supports the arts.

We recently commissioned an Israeli artist to do a massive original work for us which now fills our lobby. It's absolutely magnificent and one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, and I wanted to share it with you.
It's called "The Awakening". I met the artist several weeks ago, late one evening when I was doing some work at the church, and while he was working on the piece. He's a fascinating individual and lives with his wife in the Judaean Wilderness. (Obviously, he spent a substantial amount of time here in Atlanta to do this piece for our church.)

The Awakening is based on the story of Gideon in the Old Testament (a wonderful story which underscores how God's strength makes the impossible..... POSSIBLE...)

Below is a YouTube clip on the piece, narrated by the artist himself. Enjoy.

Art is Creation. Creation is divine. This is breathtaking. One day I want to go to church with you!

Wow ... did I need to hear that this morning. No wonder I woke at 4 and started my day here with Gideon, you, and my coffee. What a fabulous work, and blessed is your place of worship, to see it each week. A great reminder of beginnings, journeys, and the recognition that goes with God's plan for us. Have a great day ... that was just plain awesome. And the artist's narration made it very special.

Hey girl...this is not loading well. Not sure if it is just too big or what??

Suz, go to YouTube and type in "12Stone The Awakening".

It should come up ok - if not, you might be having some computer issues.

D'Arcy - you'd love my church - seriously! We wear jeans and t-shirts - the teaching is relevant to everyday LIFE and (as you can see) we support creativity.... because creativity flows from the Creator...

Laurie - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! When the sun is "just so" in the sky and it hits the stained glass it really is absolutely breathtaking. When I have my 'melancholy days' (lately, a lot...) I like to just go up there and sit, and gaze, and pray.... it's lovely.

I need to start praying that I see myself as God sees me... that I perceive myself to be as gloriously as He created me.

I need to pray for my awakening to continue... but it's just so scary, isn't it?

How beautiful the Art of God.

(And we wear jeans to our church, too. I think God invented denim...)
