Christmas 1996 - Tiny Santa

Suz's post today made me nostalgic for Christmas past.... so I dug out a Christmas pic from 12 years ago!

This is my precious firstborn child - my son J - on his first Christmas.

J was born very very very very premature, and he spent his first several months of life (including his first Christmas) in the hospital. (Actually, he spent his second Christmas in the hospital too, but that's a WHOLE different story.)

So, anyway, we celebrated Christmas late that year - and J. had to come home on oxygen (you'll notice the tiny little cannula), but I insisted that we keep the Christmas spirit, so I put him in a miniature Santa outfit. :-)

Wasn't he adorable?

And he still IS adorable! (below picture is of J. - along with his sister - taken just a couple of months ago.... he's now a big strapping 12 year old.)

Awwww, I love that little Santa outfit! God bless you children. I hope they're blessed with many more fantastic birthdays.

Now....do they make one of those Santa suits for Golden Retrievers?...hmmm....

Suz,
As you know, S was a HUGE surprise, esp considering how many health issues J had until he was about 2. But, having them 18 months apart proved to be wonderful, and I am thankful it worked out that way. They are still best friends. (In fact, right now they are camped out in the master bedroom, snuggled under the covers, watching some Disney movie... it's nice they have always stayed close, and I pray they always will.) :-)

Amanda, yes, it is impressive. J was a 24 weeker - a "micro-premie" in the lexicon of the NICU. No one held out much hope for him EXCEPT my wonderful mother. She never, not once, wavered in her faith that he was going to be "just fine". And he was.

Oh, my goodness. Wow. They are soooo cute, and you are so blessed to have both of them.
I love his baby Santa outfit! Who else would have thought of that, with all that you had to deal with at the time? That photo is a treasure.
BTW, if you look on my sidebar, Zoe Holtz Henry (she lives near us) is another sweet baby who came home with a cannula, recently. She's a cutie, too.
Thanks for sharing the story & God bless you!
