Mike Kavanagh, 1951 - 2008

One of my favorite Atlanta radio personalities, Mike Kavanagh, passed away suddenly yesterday. He was only 57.

For people outside Atlanta, his name probably won't mean a lot, but for those of us who listened to his radio show, he was a warm, honest and truly caring human being who built his life around helping others.

I'll really miss him, and his radio show.

Thanks for the memories, Mike.

He did a Sunday morning personal finance show - which I know sounds like a total SNOOZE-FEST - but it was really, really entertaining and good! I listened to it for YEARS! Even Hubster (who is so NOT into that stuff) listened to him.... he was just a good, common sense, practical guy.... and you could just tell that he was honest, and warm, and caring. And he always talked about his wife Grace and how much he loved her. She had been really ill earlier this year and he was so worried about her... and now, sadly, Mike is the one who had a sudden heart attack (on his birthday, no less) and passed away. A real tragedy. It's a big deal here in Atlanta. He's well known and well loved. Very very sad. (I'm sure your mom knows who he is.... most people in Atlanta know of him.)

After reading the tribute at the link you posted, I wish I could have gotten to know him. Seemed like the type of guy I would have wanted to pal around with.

And Suz is right. He died too young, only three years older than me.

I will have to go to radio-info.com and check out the Atlanta board and see what the posters have to say.

Cliff,
You would have loved his radio show! And, as you could see, there were many many many condolences left on the WSB site. He was very well loved in Atlanta. My heart just breaks for his wife.
