It was bound to happen..... eventually.
Ladies and gentleman, my VERY FAITHFUL Kenmore washing machine finally DIED LAST NIGHT after 19 years of service. (Yes, 19 years! I remember buying it in 1990 when Hubster was just "Boyfriend-with-Potential")
19 years is a LONG LONG time .... I'm very pleased it lasted as long as it did!
PS: The 19 year old dryer is still humming right along! :)

You know that Suz is going to cry when she reads this, with her love of appliances. Happy Shopping for its successor; may you find a worthy one!
I have to add, "Congratulations!" on its long and happy life. You must have had a great relationship with it. I love it when items of quality have a good, long lifespan.
19 years!?!?! Holy moley! You should bury it in the back yard seeing it lasted this long.
Oh, you know just like old married folks...when one goes the other follows soon behind...sorry for that bad info. :)
Good luck w/ the newbie.
oh wow... i love that old stuff lasts! really lasts... i hope you find a great deal on something shiny & new- and i hope it will last as long as your trusty old one has!
Ooooo, does that mean you get to buy one of those pretty new machines?
R.I.P. Ken, ol buddy...
I feel for you on this one. I sound like an old fart, but I'm constantly saying, "They don't make 'em like they used to!" My (mismatched!) washer and dryer have yours beat! The washer was given to me by my brother-in-law when we moved into this house, which was 14 years ago, but he had it at least 6 years before that. My dryer was also given to me the weekend we moved into this house by a friend whose mother had given it to her. Now, I've had it for 14 years, SHE had it at least 10 years, and her mother had it for at least a decade before that. I'm guessing this baby is pushing 30! The ONLY thing I've ever had to do was replace a belt about 12 years ago. That baby runs like a dream. Too bad it's harvest gold, huh? The washer is white, though.
I also acquired a lovely harvest gold stove and refrigerator that weekend we moved in, from my aunt. I had them in the basement, cuz I'm sure you know that any Italian worth her salt has a second kitchen in her basement! The stove bit it a while ago (I'm sure it was probably something easy to fix, but I just didn't want to be bothered. My aunt isn't the best housekeeper, so it came to me a bit on the junky side. I was just glad to be rid of it) but the fridge is still going strong. Actually, now that the remodel is done in the basement, the harvest gold looks awesome with the Mediterranean color scheme. Too bad I can't get new appliances in that color. Yeah, I know, I'm weird! AND, I've taken up way too much space with this stupid comment!
Have fun shopping for new appliances, and if you find a great deal somewhere, let me know!
ChiTown Girl - I ENVY you!
I LOVE the art of "frugal living"!! And I think it's GREAT when someone can make something last that long! BRAVO TO YOU!
