Back-To-School-Eve....

I love the night before the first day of school.... the excitement in the house is palpable. Both of my children have WILLINGLY taken long showers to make sure they are extra clean and fresh.

My son (SON!) has already laid out his "first day of school outfit" (Incredible Hulk t-shirt with camo pants and hiking boots...) !!

My daughter is agonizing between two choices - a purple sequined tank top with a black denim mini skirt OR a black and pink t shirt with denim capris (I cast MY vote for the second option). She is literally in her room, seriously debating the merits of each ensemble as I type this post. It's tough to be a 5th grader these days. :-)

Of course, the book bags are already packed. Freshly sharpened pencils, plenty of loose-leaf paper, composition books, dry erase markers, graph paper, rulers, scissors, high-lighters, etc. (the list goes ON AND ON... I really don't remember needing all these supplies when I was their age...)

Hubster made a nice dinner - flat iron steak with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus. Kids will go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight too.

And tomorrow - YES - tomorrow my children will get on their respective buses... and my husband will return to WORK after a week off. And the clouds will part, birds will sing, and I will have QUIET in which to work. It has been since mid MAY since I have had the house to myself.

And BOY am I looking forward to it!
(Happily, they are very excited about getting back to school as well.... whew!!)

Oh, good times. Yes, I agree, I NEVER brought that many school supplies to school. Never, not for even the entire year.
Sporty has been stressing about her first days outfits too....she has a theory, the 4th day is supposed to be the best day to dress.
crazy, I will have to blog on this subject too.
good luck. enjoy your day.

Suz,
The 4th day, huh? I'm curious to hear about the "science" behind this little theory.... I will definitey stay tuned!

Also (another "bonus" I found....)I have an unused Spa Sydell coupon I discovered (that the very "tres chic" place to get a massage in Atlanta)... I think I may have to schedule that sometime soon as a special treat for myself. :-)

I'm picturing you in a long white oxford, white socks and a broom-slash-microphone singing "Just take those old records off the shelf!"

Risky business, this mommy stuff...

I remember how excited I used to get before school started. It was like resolution time. "This year, I will... "

When my older kids would go back to school, I danced around the house like an idiot singing "I get the house back... I get the house back!" They would throw eye daggers. A favorite end-of-summer ritual...

Now, I'm homeschooling. Although I don't get the house back, I do get to go back on a schedule, which is going to be good for all of us. Plus, we have a co-op group to meet with once a week and nature and science museum trips that we have planned. It'll be fun. But it sure would be nice to have the house all to myself... just for a day... or a week...

I'm so glad you're looking forward to it as you are. Our school was supposed to start tomorrow, but isn't due to some remodeling that isn't finished. We're starting Wednesday, and those two days were a gift from Heaven! I'll be miserable, however, on Tuesday night.

One of mine is is still at home, though. And I still get time to myself (a little) when they are both home. If I never did, I would be stark raving mad and looking at summer school!

Totally thought you'd be playing the Super Freak stuff today... how's the first day of having YOUR house back? The family knows, right? That it's Mama's house... they're all just allowed to live there? ;) I wish, right? haha.

Yes! And we can have our first phone conversation!! Awesome!

There is something so BIG in that first day of school....fear and anticipation and hope and a little bit of sadness at leaving summer behind.

I have to go back in a week myself. I am a bundle of emotions over it as well!!

I enjoyed reading this post happy Wife!

I can so relate.

Except I was the only one planning the clothes the night before. The boys could care less. =)

And school supplies...I never remember having to take som many myself either! We bought everything on "the list" and naturally, after the first day was over, we had even MORE to buy!

Can't wait to hear your report on the first day.
